Visitors can enter Laos from Thailand through 5 land border check points: Chiang Khong, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan and Chong Mek. There are border passes with China and Vietnam also.
The roads linking Vientiane and Luang Prabang is good for all time travelling. Mekong river can be used for boating to many places in Laos. Tourists can travel to Nong Khai by train from Bangkok. From Vientiane there are cars to Nam Ngum dam lake, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, etc. Domestic fligts are available to Phongsaly, Luang Namtha, Oudomsay, Huay xai ( Bokyo ), Sayabouri, Luang Prabang, Xieng Khouang, Savannakhet and Pakse.
